These were our first two freezer floor under-slab insulation projects completed for this specific client. Walk-in coolers or freezers are to be situated on top of this slab upon our completion of work to avoid a conventional means of insulating the floor that would be inconvenient and costly. This was due to the fact that the client wanted a fork-lift to be able to travel from within the coolers to the outside adjacent surfaces of the slab, without transitioning to a different level of elevation.
People often ask us; “How far can foam travel under a slab?” Here is the same warehouse slab being injected with a hydrophobic void fill and stabilization foam specially formulated with a very slow cream-to-rise time to achieve under-slab insulation. Spread rates were anywhere between 5-8 feet from the point of injection.

Not only is the entire slab now better supported, but the slab is now also undersealed and insulated with an average of 1-3 inches of closed-cell foam. Full vapour barrier, and radon barrier achieved, no downtime, and no busting up good concrete.
A freezer is now in place over the slab which will help keep energy consumption costs down.
